The list of products containing nanosilver particles is long, varied and growing. What's listed below came from the Internet or a continuously updated Web site of consumer nano products complied by the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Tracking nano products is difficult because they are almost always packaged under numerous brand names and current labeling regulations do not require that the nano material be listed as an ingredient or component.

• In State College, Pa., Greenology USA makes sustainable Do No Harm medical apparel such as scrubs and lab coats with "SmartSilver's permanent, safe antimicrobial protection."

• Anti-bacterial towels from Micro Nano Fiber in Japan are sold in many discount and big box stores in the U.S.

• Bergdorf Goodman offers Skin Caviar Ampoules which promises "A nanoemulsion permits maximum penetration of the exclusive, patented Cellular Complex."

• Orvis is one of many chains selling Simms 3XDry fishing shirts claiming "silver-based nanotechnology keeps the pure cotton fabric fresh and odor free for the life of the garment."

• Nano Silver & Gold Toothbrush by Korean exporter EQ & Tech Corp. promises "anti-bacteria effects, which is good for oral care."

• Many drugstore chains and Amazon sell Andis Elevate Nano-Silver Gold Infused Curling Irons. The Sturtevant, Wis., company emphasizes the product's "real silver and real gold deliver the anti-bacterial benefits of silver plus gold's ability to safely transfer ultra heat to the hair."

• Nano Care Technology Ltd. of China exports many items into the U.S., including a line of antibacterial pet products. "Our nano silver coating materials can be widely applied on pet hairdressing appliances, food containers, chains, cages, etc. It is antibacterial and durable as well as good-look."

• The pitch from Pooghe Laundry Anti-Odor Nanotechnology Underwear from Milwaukee, Wis.: "Now you can sweat in style and confidence with Pooghe Laundry's second collection of luxury base-layer apparel, made with ultra-soft Supima cotton and nanonanoscale silver."

• The Sharper Image has sold Antibacterial Silver Athletic and Lounging Socks "knitted with a cotton material containing millions of invisible silver nanoparticles. Innovative socks are naturally antibacterial and antifungal."

• Donny the Dog Plush Toy by Pure Plushy in Lombard, Ill. says its product is "the world's first stuffed animal to blend memory foam with silver nanotechnology."

• Nanbabies Personal Wear, from Pensacola, Fla., says on its Web site that the silver used in its underwear "is made right into the cloth and remains potent up to 100 washes."

• TSUNG-HAU Technology Ltd. in Taiwan sells a variety of sports and under garments under many brand names. The company says: "We promise that it can be used for 2 weeks continuously without stinking."
