Debate: House Leaders Square Off on Eve of Historic Health Care Reform Vote

With the House of Representatives set to vote as soon as Saturday, health care reform has never been closer to being enacted. So why does public support for reform appear to be falling? Sphere asked the House Democratic and Republican leaders to debate public reaction to reform.

According to Pollster.com, which compiles poll results on a wide range of topics, more than half of the public now opposes reform, and support is below 43% and falling.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., says the Democrats' plan provides the reforms the public has been calling for -- an end to insurance discrimination, lower premiums, fewer uninsured -- and that the more people learn about the specifics of the plan, the more they like it.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, says the Democrats' plan is too expensive, amounts to a government takeover of the health care system and will lead to millions of lost jobs. He argues that Republicans have a better and more targeted solution.
